    Leaving the house never looked so appealing before.  Salome was tired and aching, and everyone was on edge from what happened the night before.  Not to mention the constant stream of phone calls and attempts at the press to get an interview or a photo.  She couldn't leave the state, especially with Jonba so going upstate with Bobby was a good, safe idea.

Picking up the blond boy from the floor, she grunted a little bit at his weight against her side and arms.  He grumbled a little bit, but she gave him a look before handing him his Elmo doll and took him back upstairs to her bed room.  Stepping inside she smiled at Hiro as the boy hid his face against her neck.

    "Don't be shy, it's Hiro, he's going to take us on a trip."

"Yes, there is a certain...liberating feeling when you do what you want to do." He smiles at her. "In a way we are in a prison, neh? We are not doing the things we want to do, worrying about our families and being frustrated that we are not living up to our potential. And in your case, you have a very big responsibility. Little children change everything."

"Name one thing you would do, if you could simply do it, no consequences, just total freedom?" Looking up at him she grinned and then moved her hand over the fabric of the bed spread. "It's weird, knowing that I have to watch him now. There was always someone else there. It's like he's really mine now."

"I would jump ahead 100 years and see what is happening. I would not stay long, but I would like to see it. What about you?" He smiles at her. "He was always yours. He is just now also your responsibiity."

Chuckling she shook her head and closed her eyes. When she did, she thought of all the things she could ever possibly want to do. That wasn't very pleasant. "I - I don't know what I would do." Opening her eyes, she watched him very carefully, did he know? "What - what do you mean?"

"It is ok that you do not know what you want to do. You still years of school left to help you think about that." He smiles at her. "There is no one other than you to take care of him here. He cannot fend for himself. You are his big sister - as the eldest sibling, you need look after him until such time as either your father returns home -" a twist of his mouth lets her know what he thinks of that "- or relatives come to take care of both of you. Do you have other relatives?"

She noted the twist of his mouth, and frowned a bit. Propping herself up on her hand she watched him very seriously. "Yes, we have relatives, my mother's parents live upstate, not far from here. We'll go stay with them, I doubt my dad will get out this time." Despite the words she doesn't seem very confident in them, and rubbed her arm slowly.

"It is good you have your grandparents. They will be more than happy to watch their grandson while you are in school." He looks at her with a lot of concern. "This has happened before? Your father being arrested?"

"I haven't seen them in a long time, I am worried that they will do what's best for Jonba. That they will raise him right." Nodding, she chewed on her bottom lip slightly. "Arrested, but not charged. No one presses charges."

"Perhaps they should get custody of him from your father. That way he could stay with them and be away from all the problems with your father. And you will be 18 soon. Then you can leave because you will be considered of age, neh?" He definitely likes this idea. "Do you have your own money? An account that he does not know about or that you can empty before he gets out of prison?"

He looks rather askance at the news about her father. "Do you think they will not press charges against him?"

"They'll get custody of him, but not from my father, he wouldn't turn it over to them. He doesn't trust them, they fought him when he institutionalized my mom. Yes, I'll be considered of age soon, and yes I have some money set aside." Chuckling, she looked up at him. "Hopefully I've thought of everything, like you have."

Sighing softly she dropped her gaze. "The IRS charges will stick, the domestic disturbance charges won't. I won't press charges."

"If your father is in prison, they will get custody of him." Hiro nods. "Why did they fight him? Is your mother not ill?"

He smiles. "I am glad you have thought of these things. It must make your 18th birthday seem all the better, knowing that you can leave and no one can stop you."

"You should press charges. He should not be allowed to get away with hurting you." He looks down. "I know you are hurt. I have seen the pain you have attempted to conceal, but I know it is not my place to do anything more than worry. Please promise me that if any of the injuries are severe you will let me take you to the hospital."

She opened her mouth, as if to correct him, Jonba wasn't her father's to give away . . . really. Instead she shook her head. "They say she isn't, but I've seen her, she's . . . not all there."

Smiling a bit more at this she laughed. "God, yes, it will be nice to finally be considered an "adult" though the age of consent in New York is seventeen." She didn't know why she said it, but it seemed like she was saying it a lot these days.

"Hiro . . ." Reaching out, she touched his arm gently and shifted on the bed. "I'm fine, really, it's just a few bruises, I've had worse. But, I can't, if I do, and he finds out, and if he Gets out, it will be ten times worse."

"Have you told them this? Have they not been there to see her?"

"Age of consent in Japan is 13." He shrugs. "It really depends on where you are and what the police think."

He smiles a little evilly. "He would not know if you were in a hospital in Japan, but I trust your judgement."

"He doesn't let me see them, not really, and to my knowledge they aren't allowed to see her."

"Wow, really, I didn't know that. It's totally different over here, I'm just tired of everyone thinking I'm too young, or too little."

The smile caught her off guard, and she raised an eyebrow at it. "That is one hell of a look there, Hiro. What are you thinking?"

"But they are her parents! They should be able to see her. Perhaps that, too, will change if he actually has to stay in jail."

"Countries have different ages of consent. I think the Japanese age stems from when most people begin to become sexually active, which always varies from person to person. However, a number of organizations have tried to push the age to 17. I did not lose my virginity until I was 20." Suddenly he goes very red. "I do not know why I said that."

"I am not plotting anything, but if you do need a hospital, he will not know if you were in one in Tokyo. I do not believe his business contacts there and I do have contacts here."

"I know it will, that might take some juggling, but as long as I can get power of attorney from his lawyer. It's complicated, but . . ." Shaking her head, she rubbed her forehead, getting way ahead of herself.

"I think it should be up to the individual, I mean, I think that only the individual knows what they are ready for and when they are ready for it." Eyebrows lifted as she watched him, a little surprised. "Really? I wouldn't have guessed that, who was it with, if you don't mind me asking. It's okay that you told me, I - I was thirteen." Laughing she shrugged. "See, different, for different people."

"I love it when you talk like that!" Grinning, she fell back against the bed. "Very bad ass, Hiro, I like it. A lot." It was thrilling to hear usually soft spoken Hiro talking about contacts and his influence.

"You should most certainly keep that in mind, but right now, I think the situation is too unstable to take what may be considered final actions. Until they press charges and make him stay in jail, everything is a 'what if'."

"Unfortunately, I cannot completely agree on that. Some people are too willing to do something just because their friend does it or they bow to some other peer pressure. Unfortunately, like maturity, it is something that is difficult to gauge and differs from person to person." Hiro is still red after his confession. "Girls do not like boys who are geeks. I was laughed at a lot. She was a girl in my class who thought I might be fun. We were a little drunk. It was not the best experience in my life. At least she did not laugh."

"I am not so badass." He's blushing more. "But I do know people here and some that even he could not ignore. As a matter of fact, if you need a lawyer, I know a very good one."

"I hate 'what if's' I hate them all, I hate not knowing." Drawing her knees up, she started chewing on her thumbnail. "Your right though, I just have to sit and wait it out. You'll stick with me, just for a bit anyway, right?"

"I guess it depends on the person, what's true for me . . . I think your right on some points, about kids bowing to peer pressure. It gets complicated if you think too much about it." Turning her head, she watched him, poor blushing Hiro. "I'm sorry that it wasn't the best experience, but you've had better since, right?" Sitting up again, she watched him, her hands in her lap, her voice was soft when she spoke. "You shouldn't have to worry about someone laughing at you."

Giggling she went back to biting on her thumbnail. "I think you are, deep down, you kick major ass. Really? I might take you up on the lawyer thing."

"Mochiron! As long as you need me. I am your friend and friends stick with each other through good times and bad. It is frustrating to wait, but sometimes you must . Right now you have no control over your father's fate."

Hiro nods at her question. "I have had some wonderful sex since then." He shrugs. "Many people have laughed at me. I have just learned to ignore them."

"I will talk to him, let him know what is happening. That way if you need him immediately, he will be ready. I will mention as little personal information as possible."

"You may want to withdraw your money and put it in another account or even put the cash in a safety deposit box. If the IRS is involved, they may try to take it as assets from your father."

"Mochiron?! What does that mean?" Beaming broadly she managed to look a little shy. "I am very glad you are my friend, I don't know what I would do, without having someone to talk to about this. Without having to explain every thing."

"At least that's something, good for you! I am always pleased when friends are having good sex! Oh god that sounded weird." Laughing at herself she patted his leg. "Ignore them, and ignore me when I sound like an idiot."

"Thank you, that means a lot, knowing that you would help me like that. I will also do what you suggested, hiding that money away. The last thing I would want . . . is to be without means."

"It means 'naturally!', 'of course!', that sort of thing. I accept that you have your secrets and that we have not known each other very long. Sometimes keeping secrets is the only way to survive."

"A little weird," Hiro agrees, but he's smiling. "But then I am a little weird, so I guess it fits."

"Does Jonba have an account or a trust fund or something? You may wish to do the same for his if you are able to get to it. A foreign account may be a good thing. A Swiss account if you have that much."

"I will have to remember that, I will try to anyway. Thank you for not trying to get my secrets out of me. One day, when we've known each other for a long time maybe we can finally spill our guts."

Laughing, she nodded as she rubbed her feet against the bed spread. "It's nice to be around other weird people. I meant it in a nice way though! I just want my friends to be happy."

"I am not sure, I didn't even think to look into that. He might, I know dad was always paranoid that he was taken care of. If I look into it and get back to you, will you point me in the right direction?"

"I would never make you tell me anything you feel uncomfortable telling me."

"Just as we want to see you happy. You have a wonderful smile. We want to see it more often."

"Sure. I would be more than happy to help you with anything like that."

"I guess it's not so weird for me, it makes other people comfortable."

Laughing, she put her head on his knee. "It sounds weird when you say 'we' like there is more then one Hiro."

"Would you be the executor of my estate?" She was still grinning, half joking at the question.

"What? Telling everything? Why do people have to know everything? That's part of the fun of a friendship, learning things as you go."

"I think all of your real friends would agree with me. Like Bobby."

He looks a little confused. Some of the legal terms are a bit beyond his knowledge in English. "You wish me to execute your estate?"
