[Drabble] Adventerous!Salome & powered_otaku

        “Cliff diving, in Acapulco?”  Hiro gives her a look as if she’s lost her mind, it’s not an uncommon look, but she still gets frustrated when she gets it. 

        “It’s not like I am asking you to walk across hot coals, plus we’re with a group!”  Oh yes, the local who looked like a bum but was highly recommended by one of the hotels in town.  That really doesn't make him feel better about the situation, especially not after the waivers they have to fill out.

        “Hey, I ate the intestines when we were in China,” she reminds him, leaning over to take a peek off the side of the cliff at the crashing waters below them.  Grabbing her, he tugs the blond back to stand beside him, on solid ground.

       “Yes, but pig intestine will not kill you!  This could kill you!”  He was pained to even have to explain this to her.  “I do not understand why you are surprised at my response.”

Turning to him, she puts her hand on her hip and gives him a very serious look.  “I’m not going to die, I’m going to live to be a thousand years old,” for some reason the number keeps going up when she speaks to him.  “And you are too, which is why it’s perfectly safe to jump.  Nothing can go wrong.”

 “That’s not even logical; do you know how crazy you sound sometimes?”  But she is grinning, and despite the death jump in front of him, he manages a slight smile as well.

The trainer explains how to correctly jump, and that there would be a boat that would collect you after you surfaced.  After joking that he had never lost a person . . . yet, he asks the group to form a queue.  When there was only one other person in front of her, Salome begins to get a little nervous. 

Turning to Hiro, she sighs and takes him by his shoulders.  For a long time she doesn't say anything, just looks deep into his eyes as if she is searching for something.  Grinning she leans up and kisses him quickly, “I’ll see you at the bottom, okay?”

Before he can say a word, or pull her back, she steps away and disappears off the edge of the cliff.  The instructor motions for Hiro to come forward, as he moves he seriously wonders what possessed him to go along with this idea.  There was no turning back now, and at the signal, he jumps.

"Your father treated you like a thing he could use and throw away. You are too important to me. I will let you know every day how much you mean to me. Your father was completely wrong."

He kneels in front of the chair. "Trust me?"

Smiling brightly she nodded and lent forward, touching his cheek she pressed her lips to his. "I do, utterly and completely, I trust you. I know you would never hurt me, never use me. That's why I love you." Another light kiss as she brushes his hair away from his forehead before leaning back.

"You aren't like anyone I've ever met, and it's not just because you have an ability." Still grinning she watches him with such happiness and adoration in her eyes.

"And I think we have a date with a restaurant on a pier where we can watch fish swim by." He gets to his feet and holds out his hand to help her out of the chair.

"Can I go naked?" She looks down at herself before taking his hand and standing up. "Please? I promise I'll be on my best behavior." Her grin is rather sweet but she manages to look mischievous at the same time.

"Only if you want me to fight off all the men who will be trying to get you. I do not think this place allows for nudity." He kisses her. "We will have to see if they have a nude version of this on Nassau or wherever."

"Now that would be quiet a sight, no one has ever fought over me." Moving away from him, she starts to hum a song as she gets dressed, blow drying her hair she picks out a plain white summer dress. "I gave her my heart, but she wanted my soull . . ." She sings to herself before she puts the finishing touches on her make up.

Appearing in the bed room, she smiles. "Fin."

Hiro is dressed, his hair still damp and spiky. He gives her a wolf-whistle when she walks in. "We can walk there. It's not too far." He holds out his arm for her to take.

Looking around she laughs but takes his arm. "That whistle was for me? Oh Golly, I'm a lucky one. Speaking of, have I told you how hot you look with your hair like that?"

"You did. That is why I did not comb it back." They go out the door, walk to the desk where he drops off the key. The late afternoon is cool with an ocean breeze that ruffles both of their hair and adds a bit more swing to Salome's dress. Couples are walking around and some families are still on the beach, trying to eke out the last minutes befor sunset.

Hiro is smiling hugely. "We should bring Jonba here. I think he would like it a lot."

As they walk, her fingers slid down his arm and she takes his hand, letting her fingers intertwine with his. Closing her eyes, she lets him lead her, her head going to his shoulder for a moment before he speaks. Looking around she nods her approval and then looks at him with a small sigh.

"He does love the water, and I am sure he could find a lot of children to play with. I think that would be very nice, to bring him down here one day. It is sweet that you think about him." Squeezing his hand, she bounces a little when she walks, to excited to truly walk normally.

Hiro squeezes her hand gently. "Do you think he could love me as his father? I know he is young enough that his memory of his father will fade for the most part, but do you think he will eventually see me as his father?"

He begins to gently swing their hands. He's very happy. This is such a normal thing to do in a life that has gotten anything but normal since his ability manifested. He feels like he's pretending at home to live a normal life, but it just doesn't work. With her at his side, it may not be more normal, but at least he's not alone, which makes all the difference in the world.

She thinks very hard about the question, as if by doing so would be able to come up with a definite answer. Deep down she is worried that Jonba will be just like his father, that no matter how much love they give him it will all drain out. "I think he will, that he will forget about his biological father and see you as his true father. It's impossible not to love you."

Salome is pleased to find that she believes the words she says and reaches over to kiss his cheek softly. The restaurant is on the end of a long pier that juts out over the water, and as they walk down it she frowns thoughtfully. "Is it bad form to eat fish and watch fish at the same time?"

Hiro blushes at her words. "I hope so."

"Fish eat each other. We are just a little higher up the food chain than they are. And we probably will not be watching fish that we are eating." They take the table all the way at the edge of the establishment. There is a glass panel that runs under the table and the table itself is glass and magnifies the view under them. Pretty fish swim over the white sand, along with a few small sharks and other fish that are more than willing to take advantage should something fall off the pier.

"I'm going to take your word for it, but if I see a fish on my plate that looks like flounder over there I am going to be very upset." She's teasing him of course, more then happy to eat a fish that she sees or that she doesn't. Leaning forward she takes his hand and runs her thumb over his fingers. The light reflected off the water gives everyone and everything in the restaurant a blueish tinge, it's almost as if they are actually under the water instead of on top of it.

"Thank you for the wonderful day, Hiro."

"We will not order flounder, then. Or shark fin soup." He holds her hand, then brings it to his lips to kiss. The waitress comes up, asking for drink orders. Hiro looks rather chagrinned because he hasn't even bothered to look at the menu so he just orders a coke.

"You do not need to thank me. It is my pleasure to take you to such a beautiful place."

"I like shark fin soup though!" She pipes up and then grins as he kisses her fingers. It's such a wonderfully romantic gesture, it's perfectly fitting with the place they are in. When the waitress turns to her she shrugs and orders a water, she never drinks soda.

"But I do need to thank you, you could have just left me at home you know. I mean this is very sweet, no one has really ever taken me out before." Her father, did not count.

"Then we will not look at the sharks while you eat your soup," he grins. "But if I left you at home, then I would have been here all by myself and I would not have enjoyed myself at all."

"Do not make eye contact with the sharks!" She holds up one hand as if shielding her vision from the side of the glass. "Just pretend they aren't here." Laughing she wiggled a little in her seat before responding. "If I wasn't here, would you be here?"

"If you look a shark in the eye, he may take it as an invitation to nibble off your toes!" Hiro laughs. "We will keep them away by ignoring them." He shakes his head. "No, I probably would not have come here. Unless I specifically want to be alone or must travel alone, I do not like to go places by myself. Even in the morning when I go to work, I usually meet Ando in the coffee house before we go into work."

"Toe nibbles are okay, but sharks always tend to take off a little more then you would want them too. They are complete brutes!" Placing her elbow on the table, she puts her chin on her hand, watching him as the waitress brings their drinks. "You aren't alone a lot, are you?"

"Sharks never have any impulse control. They will say they will not bite, but they always do. Like the scorpion." He smiles. "No, I am not alone much. I like people. I like being around people." He orders tuna with mango salsa and papaya salad.

"That reminds me the story of the frog and the scorpion. Man I am glad I never hung out with any sharks." Shaking her head she ordered the shark fin soup and a small crab salad. "I can understand that, I mean not wanting to be alone."

"That is the exact tale I was thinking of," Hiro nods. "I have been around sharks, but only the business variety." He hands the waitress his menu. "Perhaps it is because I am nihon'jin and we never are truly alone. You have to work to get away from people at home. But I like feeling not alone, most of the time. Every once in a while I want to escape, but not usually. Strangely, since it became possible to do so, I have not felt like doing it."

She listens to him as she fixes her water, squeezing the lemon in her water she frowns a little bit. "What is a nihon'jin?" Licking her fingers she eats the meat of the lemon, sucking on it slowly. "Maybe we only want to escape when we know we can't, knowing you can is so refreshing and so reassuring makes you feel better. I dunno, I am usually alone. So I'm just talking."

"Nihon'jin is Japanese - a person of Japan or Nihon as we call it." He looks a little confused. "You are usually alone? Is Jonba not usually with you?"
